Beware of "healthy" labels...

The FDA has begun to target misleading advertisements on food products that claim to be "healthy". Here are some ways that claims are misleading.

-when it says "sugar-free" that means that it has been sweetened with aspartame which can be more unhealthy to consume than sugar. Instead look for products sweetened with agave nectar or pure cane sugar.

-when it says "0 grams trans fats" that really means less than .5 oz. per serving. Check the serving size and nutrition facts carefully. Another way to tell if it has trans fats: check the ingredients for shortening, hydrogenated vegetable oil, and partially hydrogenated vegetable oil

-when it says "fat-free" it is usually loaded with artificial ingredients to make it taste better so beware! Instead look for products that are naturally fat free or have good sources of fat.

Organic foods are free of additives!

One of the biggest threat to human health today is sitting on the shelves of every grocery store in town. Its in the bread, the crackers, the "health bars", the drinks, the chips, the soups, the cereals, the meat, the pasta, the peanut butter, the chewing gum, and almost everything else you can think of. Food additives are used in nearly every food today. They include but are not limited to: high fructose corn syrup, sacharin, MSG, aspartame, palm oil, nitrates, nitrites, potassium bromate, and anything partially hydrogenated. These and many other food additives have been linked to many health problems including brain tumors, dizziness, cancer, diabetes, alzheimer's, and birth defects. Please just be aware of this and check labels of food before you buy them. If you don't know what an ingredient is, or better yet - if you can't even pronounce it, then it is probably not the best thing you can be putting into your body. Our bodies aren't miracle workers, you cannot put crap into them and expect anything good to come out of it. Just thought I would let you all know. Thanks
